Sweet Pickins Oil Wax is an all-in-one finish and sealer made with natural resins and waxes. It gives a durable, water-repellent finish with a smooth satin sheen, and it's perfect for protecting milk-painted furniture, tabletops, and unfinished wood. Choose Clear, or a tinted Dark, Black, or White for an aged look in one step. Learn more below.

About Sweet Pickins Oil Wax

Oil Wax earns its spot as a favorite finishing coat for Sweet Pickins Milk Paint because it handles several jobs at once. A blend of natural resins and waxes forms a hard, water-repellent finish that resists water marks. It dries to a smooth satin and can be buffed to build a higher shine.

Oil Wax performs best over porous surfaces, such as Milk Paint and unfinished wood. It is water resistant but not waterproof, so keep it to indoor projects. Clean brushes with mineral spirits.

Here at Eco Building Products, we offer Sweet Pickins Oil Wax in four colors.

  • Clear. This oil-based formula has an amber tone that lets the natural character of your piece show through. It is the best starting point if you are new to Oil Wax. Because oil-based products can yellow over time, use caution over white paint.
  • Dark (Brown). A true brown tint adds an aged, antique look as it seals. It settles into grain and details like a glaze. If the color runs too deep for your taste, blend it with Clear to soften it.
  • Black. The boldest option delivers dramatic depth and strong contrast on distressed pieces. It works as both a finish and a staining wax. Mix it with Clear for a subtler charcoal effect.
  • White. This tinted version brightens the finish with a lighter, softened tone. Use it when you want protection without darkening the surface. Test it first on a hidden spot to confirm the look.

Sizes

  • Sample: 2 oz.
  • Pint: 16 oz.
  • Quart: 32 oz.
  • Gallon: 128 oz.

Simply brush or rub it on, then wipe it dry. Full instructions are provided on the bottle. Oil Wax combines natural resins and waxes into a durable, water-repellent, water-mark-resistant finish and sealer. It dries to a smooth satin finish or can be buffed to a higher shine.

Oil Wax is non-toxic, all-natural and low in VOCs. It dries to a hard finish that provides excellent protection, and one application is often all you need. Use it over porous surfaces such as milk paint or unfinished wood. It's ideal for tabletops, furniture and everything in between.

Coverage: Coverage varies with the surface and number of coats. Generally, a pint covers approximately 125–250 sq. ft. on porous surfaces and 250–450 sq. ft. on newer, relatively non-porous surfaces. Test patches are recommended.

Instructions

Stir or shake before use. Pour into a separate container to prevent contamination. Clean the surface of loose paint and dust. Apply full strength with a brush using long, even strokes, working the Oil Wax into the paint. Do not allow the product to puddle.

Allow the Oil Wax to penetrate for 15–20 minutes, then wipe off with a clean, lint-free towel. Follow with another clean towel to remove excess product and ensure an even finish. Allow 12 hours before applying a second coat for additional protection and sheen, and 24 hours to dry before use.

Clean up with mineral spirits. Use in temperatures between 70–80°F for proper drying. Recommended for indoor use only. Oil Wax is water-resistant, but not waterproof.

Warning

Oil Wax and Tung Oils are oil-based products that can spontaneously combust under certain conditions. Dispose of all rags used with oil-based products, including stains, in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid. Do not leave oil-soaked rags bunched up or place them directly in a household trash can, especially in hot climates.
