Installation Requirements
Rusticork panels must acclimate on-site for 48 hours before installation. Maintain a stable environment of 70°F (21°C) and 30–50% relative humidity. Store boxes on edge and avoid stacking more than three high. Panels should be mixed from multiple boxes to ensure a balanced, natural look.
Substrate Preparation
Install over clean, dry, smooth surfaces such as drywall or sanded plywood. Walls must be flat within 1/8 inch over 10 feet. Painted surfaces should be washed and lightly sanded. Drywall joints should be finished with cement-based compounds and fiberglass mesh tape. Any imperfections should be filled with Portland cement–based patching products to create a uniform surface.
Tools and Materials Needed
- Tape measure and chalk line or laser level
- Vacuum or broom for surface cleaning
- Short-nap roller and paint tray
- Circular saw, track saw, or table saw
- Duro Design water-based low-VOC contact adhesive
Installation Process
Begin by planning the layout, choosing between a straight grid pattern or a staggered brick layout. Mark centerlines on the wall to guide placement. Apply adhesive to both the wall and the back of each panel using a roller. Allow adhesive to dry for at least 30 minutes until it becomes translucent with a slight gloss. Do not install panels over wet adhesive.
Position each panel lightly at first to ensure proper alignment, then press firmly to activate the bond. Keep joints tight and cut perimeter pieces to fit using a table or track saw. When using a circular saw, cut panels upside down for cleaner edges.
Maintenance and Care
Rusticork panels require minimal maintenance. Regular vacuuming with a soft brush attachment keeps the surface clean. For spot cleaning, use a hardwood floor cleaner such as Bona, Finitec, or Basic Coatings. With proper care, Rusticork walls can maintain their beauty and performance for decades.
