    hello,
what is the actual size of the trim? in other words if I buy the 22.5×30.5 how much of the ceiling gets covered by the trim?

    thanks

    • Eco-Building Products

The trim width is approximately 2.25″, and it extends approximately 1 1/8″ to 1.25″ from the box. The box is 22 1/4″ x 30 1/4″, and 1/2″ shims are provided to help set the box within the joists. Thus, the amount that covers the ceiling is about 1 1/8″ minus about 1/8″ for gap between box and joist, not taking into account any slight deviation from on-center spacing, joist sizing, and the cutting of the ceiling surface.

This information applies to our other hatches as well (excepting for the different hatch/box sizes).

    Hello ~

I watched the Sealin Hatch Ceiling Attic Hatch installation video & was disappointed that the frame did not cover where the ceiling had been cut away, since I thought that was the idea of the frame. Please tell me if the rough cutout was larger than it needed to be. Many thanks!

The old house in the video had an unusual trim size which was wider than the new trim. A little touch up with paint after the hatch was in made it look like new, which is pretty easy to do.

We used a blower door test to measure the energy loss in this house and found that the new hatch reduced the the loss by close to 20 percent.

  4. Colin Kiernan

I am interested in your product – the ceiling hatch to the attic – but I am dealing with cross studs that are only 14 3/8 inches apart.

Can you provide a hatch that can meet those specifications?

    Thanks
