Sweet Pickins Hemp Oil

$7.87

Sweet Pickins Hemp Oil seals Milk Paint from the inside out and brings tired, dry wood back to life. This 100% natural, VOC-free oil has very little odor and is food safe. Apply it with a brush and wipe off the excess.

About Sweet Pickins Hemp Oil

Sweet Pickins Hemp Oil is a versatile finish that works beautifully on milk-painted and chalk-painted pieces as well as unfinished wood. It enhances the color of painted surfaces and helps revive tired, dull, and weathered wood. Hemp Oil cures from the inside out to protect your project and becomes water-resistant once fully dry. It dries to a subtle satin finish, especially when multiple coats are applied.

Hemp Oil is completely food-safe, making it an excellent choice for baby toys, cribs, cutting boards, salad bowls, and wooden utensils. It also has very little odor, making it pleasant to use indoors.

Hemp Oil can also be used as a resist between two layers of Milk Paint to create natural chipping and a beautifully layered finish. Simply apply your first color, brush Hemp Oil onto random areas, then apply your second coat of paint. The areas treated with Hemp Oil will naturally resist the second layer of Milk Paint, allowing the first color to show through. Experiment with different application patterns to create unique effects.

How to Apply

  1. Let your Milk Paint dry fully, ideally overnight, before oiling.
  2. Brush the oil on liberally with a clean brush.
  3. Let it soak in for about 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Wipe off all the excess with a clean, lint-free cloth. The Better Than Cheesecloth buffing cloths we sell work well for this.
  5. Wait about two hours, then apply a second coat. Add a third coat for items that will see heavy use or regular washing.

The piece is ready to use after 24 hours, though the oil keeps curing as it absorbs into the wood for about 30 days. Coverage depends on the wood and your technique. As a guide, 4 oz covers about 15 sq ft and 16 oz covers about 60 sq ft.

Hemp oil also works as a creative resist between two layers of Milk Paint. Paint your first color, dab the oil on in random spots, then paint your second color. The top coat lifts away where the oil sits, exposing the first color for a naturally chippy look.

Full instructions are provided on the bottle.
