About Marmoleum Fresco Marbled Sheet Flooring
The fresco technique gave Renaissance Italy its most enduring interiors. Pigment was applied into wet plaster and allowed to cure with it, so the color became part of the wall itself rather than a layer resting on top.
Marmoleum Fresco borrows the name for good reason. Its color runs through the entire body of the sheet, formed from linoleum granules pressed together rather than printed onto a surface film. What you see on day one is the same material you'll see decades later, because there is no decorative layer to breach. Forbo characterizes the range as a strong palette of subtly blended tone-on-tone designs producing a fresh, delicate, and balanced aesthetic.
Soft Contrast, Refined Structure
Fresco's marbling operates differently from its siblings. Rather than combining six to eight contrasting colors the way Marmoleum Vivace does, each Fresco shade is built from a tight cluster of closely related tones, which produces a finely veined surface with gentle rather than dramatic variation.
The result appears nearly solid from a standing position but never flat, with just enough texture to feel like a natural marble material. Forbo describes the soft contrast of its refined marbled structure as setting the stage for calm and soothing interiors. That intent shows up in where the range gets applied the most, such as offices, dental practices, spas, libraries, memory care units, and residential bedrooms.
The Widest Color Palette in the Marmoleum Marbled Family
Depending on market availability, Fresco spans as many as 38 individual colorways, making it the single largest design range within the Marmoleum Marbled Sheet collection. Neutrals anchor the collection through Silver Shadow, Arabian Pearl, Moonstone, Oat, Cinder, Sage, and Natural Corn. Deep tones arrive with Volcanic Ash, Eternity, Walnut, Lava, and Black.
Then the range opens up considerably into saturated territory: Golden Sunset, Kyoto, Scarlet, Henna, Ruby, Marine, Greek Blue, Turquoise, Aqua, Avocado, Hunter Green, Leaf, Marigold, Mustard, Lemon Zest, Lilac, and Rose. Very few natural linoleum flooring products offer this much chromatic reach inside a single consistent structure, and it means a Fresco specification rarely requires compromise on color.
Designed to Coordinate with Everything Else
Fresco's restraint gives it a role no other Marbled design fills quite as well. Forbo notes that the softness of Marmoleum Fresco enables it to sit well next to all other Marbled and Striato flooring styles, making it the natural field material in mixed-design layouts. Run Fresco as the primary floor and you can introduce Vivace for a high-traffic zone, Terra for a textured entry, or Striato for a directional corridor without the transitions fighting each other. Since all five Marbled structures and the Striato Linear range share identical construction and thickness, those combinations detail cleanly at every seam. Color-matched welding rods are supplied for each item, and BIM models for the full Marbled collection are available through BIMobject.
Materials, Emissions, and Carbon Footprint
The natural composition of Fresco is consistent across the Marmoleum family. Oxidized linseed oil and pine rosin bind wood flour, limestone, and natural pigments onto a woven jute backing, arriving at up to 98% natural raw materials, with no PVC, phthalates, plasticizers, or mineral oil present. Manufacturing runs entirely on renewable electricity, uses no process water, and incorporates 36% recycled content, and Forbo documents the floor to have a carbon footprint of -0.67 kg CO2e/m² for the 2.5 mm sheet without purchasing offsets.
Independently verified bacteriostatic performance, Allergy UK approval, and total VOC emissions well below European limits make Fresco a defensible specification in healthcare and education. Certain Fresco shades are additionally offered in an Ohmex antistatic construction for spaces with electrostatic sensitivity.
Thicknesses, Seams, and Care
Fresco is supplied at 2.5 mm as standard in rolls 79” inches wide, with 2.0 mm and 3.2 mm gauges available on many items for lighter residential or heavier commercial duty. A 3.5 mm Marmoleum Decibel construction providing 18 dB of impact sound reduction can be produced in any Marbled color, subject to minimum order and lead time. Seams heat-weld into a continuous, watertight surface suitable for kitchens, clinics, and wet-prone rooms.
Because Topshield is factory-applied and UV-cured, no site sealing, waxing, or stripping is ever required. Daily care is dust mopping plus a damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner (between 7.0 and 8.5), such as Marmoleum’s floor cleaner. For stubborn soiling or uneven gloss on commercial floors, Forbo recommends spray cleaning with a single-disc machine at 150 to 300 rpm using a red 3M or equivalent pad. Keep ammonia, high-alkaline cleaners, and abrasives away from the surface entirely.
