Every other Marmoleum design is non-directional. You can rotate a sheet of Real or Piano ninety degrees and nothing changes. Striato is the exception, and that single property changes what the floor can do. Its fine linear striations, produced by the calendaring process rather than printed on, run continuously along the length of the roll and give the surface an orientation.
Forbo highlights its linear directional pattern to support guiding and zoning among the collection's defining features, and in practice that means the floor becomes a quiet wayfinding instrument. Lay the grain along a corridor and it pulls people forward. Turn it ninety degrees at a threshold and the room reads as a distinct destination. No signage required.
Striato's Abstract Wood, Not Imitation Wood
Striato references natural wood and stone without pretending to be either. The striations are random and organic rather than repeating, so there's no printed knot pattern recurring every third plank and no attempt to simulate a species. What you get is the warmth and grain-like rhythm people associate with timber, delivered by a material that is dimensionally stable, resistant to moisture, and comfortable underfoot in ways solid wood is not.

The current Linear range holds sixteen colorways, all working within a warm, earthy neutral framework rather than a bright one. Sandy Chalk anchors the light end at an LRV of 61%, followed by Ivory Shades at 52%, Desert Sand at 48%, Rocky Ice at 47%, Silt Stone at 44%, Bleached Gold at 42%, and Urban Silver at 41%. Compressed Time sits at 34% and Stonehenge at 33%, with Trace of Nature at 28%, Blue Basalt at 27%, and Withered Prairie at 25% filling the middle. The darkest options are Black Glacier at 19%, Cliffs of Moher and Red Horse both at 18%, and Welsh Moor at 8%. The names lean geological and atmospheric, which suits a range built to feel found rather than manufactured.
Designed to Be Combined
Because the palette is intentionally restrained, Striato behaves less like a statement floor and more like a canvas. The colors come to life when combined with each other and with other materials, and Forbo actively pairs them across ranges, using Red Horse alongside Terracotta from Marmoleum Walton as one published example.
Two or three Striato tones can be run together to define zones inside a single open plan, and since the collection shares construction and thickness with the Marbled and Solid ranges, transitions into Fresco or Walton detail cleanly at the seam. The subtle linear pattern also tends to pick up color from its surroundings, shifting slightly depending on what furniture, walls, and lighting sit around it.

Striato is USDA Certified with 100% biobased content, naturally free of phthalates and plasticizers, contributes toward LEED credits, and carries a 30-year system service life. The composition is the standard Marmoleum recipe of linseed oil, pine rosin, wood flour, limestone, natural pigments, and jute, reaching up to 98% natural raw materials with no PVC anywhere in the build.
Manufacturing runs on 100% renewable electricity, uses no process water, and incorporates 36% recycled content, and Forbo highlights the product’s carbon footprint to be -0.67 kg CO2e/m² reached through plant sequestration rather than purchased offsets. Allergy UK approval, verified bacteriostatic performance, and very low VOC emissions carry across from the rest of the family.
Marmoleum Striato Installation Notes and Daily Care
One consideration matters more with Striato than with any other Marmoleum design: sheet orientation. Because the pattern is directional, all sheets in a run must be installed grain-aligned, and your installer should plan the layout before cutting. Standard thickness is 2.5 mm in rolls 2 meters wide, with a 3.5 mm Marmoleum Decibel construction available for 18 dB of impact sound reduction.
Color-matched welding rods allow seams to be heat-welded into a continuous watertight surface. Maintenance stays refreshingly simple thanks to the factory-cured Topshield finish, which never needs waxing, polishing, or stripping. Dust mop regularly, damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner between 7.0 and 8.5, and keep ammonia, high-alkaline products, and abrasive powders off the floor entirely.
